What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

Hi

I am starting a small business, let's call it Mybiz and I did register it as an individual business with my boro of NYC in the Mybiz format. I also reserved the name with the Department of State in the Mybiz, LLC format. (And yes, I do intend to register it as an LLC later on within the time frame allowed.)

One question is if this business name reservation with the DoS makes Mybiz name unavailable in the state of New York to other parties in any of the other possible formats, such as Mybiz LLC, Mybiz, Limited Liability Company, Mybiz, L.L.C. etc... you get the idea, as well as Mybiz, Inc and such?

And another question, what are my rights in regards to Mybiz name as far as individual business registrations in other boros of NYC and counties of New York state are concerned, please?

Thanks a lot!

MyBiz (LLC, LC, Inc, ...) registration should prevent the use of MyBiz with other suffixes.

Note however, registering the business only protects the name against other business name. It doesn't give you any trademark rights, so even if my company is called SomeOtherBiz I may acquire rights in commerce to a product called MyBiz.

Thank you. Does this include the individual business registration(s) in other boros/counties of New York? I am pretty sure that they ran the name against something in the computer when I registered mine, not sure if it was the DoS database though that they looked at.

Yeah, I know... Can't possibly worry about every little thing as it is just too much money... I do own the .com domain however: so let them trademark my name so that I could start cashin' in. :)
