What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

My friend has received the first complaint letter about copyright infringement (Civil litigation) by USPS delivered in the mail box.

He received the second summon by attaching on the apartment door.

Both delivery have no-one signed for them.

If he didn't respond to this summon and moved away, what would be the possible consequences?

if he/she dosent "answer" to the summons, and automatic judgement will be placed against he/she w/o even going to court. it's in their best interest for you or someone to get those summons to the said person so they can respond by the requested time stated on the summons.

Further clarification

Thanks for the info. I realize that the summon will be judged by default. My further questions are:

1. Can Civil judgement affect to VISA status? since my friend is a non-US resident who lives in NY
2. Is it possible to affect the Green card he might be applying?
3. In terms of plaintiffs rewarding fees, how would they implement if they can't find my friend?

Hopefully it can and he gets booted ... we have enough deadbeats here without importing them.
