What is the name of your state? MA

I was a victim on Nigerian Check Fraud - where I am now out $4,700

I wondered if there is any way I can report this as some sort of loss on my tax return next year?

No. You didn't invest the $4700; you just got bilked. The amount isn't enough to qualify for a theft loss deduction.
