A Vet. Killed my puppy

I am from Michigan and I took an 8 week old Pug Puppy to a Vet and they said they could fix him before six months old. They did and killed him. We are taking them to small claims court for the amount of dog. They counter claimed for over 1100.00 because we stopped payment on a check and we HAD to pay to even get him from the Vet to bury him. The total bill was 130.00 and now its over 1000.00. Could you tell us just what to do and how to handle this case without a lawyer.

Prior to surgery, you signed some papers. In those papers is a Limitation of Liability condition. Read it.
