What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California.

Hi everyone, up front I appreciate any advice you guys may have as I've googled my brains out and have gotten different answers. Here's what happened: When I was 16 I cut math class and broke into a residence to "hang out" until the period was over then I'd go back to school. I cut class often but that was the first and only residence I broke in to. I had 2 friends along with me and we did not intend to take anything, just hiding out. We got caught, arrested, sent to juvenile hall. We got a public defender that spoke all of 4 words to us, "just plead no contest." Thinking he has our best interests in mind we listen to him and just like that I get charged with 1st degree residential burglary, a felony. There were no weapons involved, no resisting arrest, nothing was found out of place in the home because we didn't rummage through the rooms. I was sent to juvenile hall but was later released to the care of my father and house arrest until my 18th birthday.

I learned from that mistake and have been a good person since then. I joined the army and served 6 years fighting 2 wars with not a single negative on my record and even being soldier of the year for my brigade. I have not gotten into any trouble aside from a DUI arrest but not a conviction, case was dismissed. Also I had a speeding ticket for doing 65 in a 55 on my motorcycle. I am worried because the internet says that juvenile records can be sealed unless the crime falls under the welfare and institution code 707 which I found 1st degree residential burglary on the list. I'm currently a college student after being honorably discharged from the military for an injury sustained in Afghanistan. I have straight A's and I volunteer as a tutor for the younger students with no life experience. I want more than anything to be a nurse and help people but they won't accept nurses with felonies. Please help me, is there a way or should I look for a new career goal? I am seeing a social worker/psychiatrist for depression and other things, could he write a letter as a character witness to the judge? I'm 31 years old, it's been 15 years...does this thing own me for life?
