Abondoned connecting property

My mother who lives in Hendricks County of Indiana has a small lot that adjoins her property. For the last 30 years she has maintained (mowed & trimmed) this property. The lot has no buildings of any kind, just an empty lot. The owners are not interested in selling and have never been seen at the property. She was told by a friend, that in Indiana, it you take care of a property for more than 10 years, you now own it!! Is there any truth to this statement???
