Need to know if there is anything we can do to protect a 59 year old phyically impaired brother who is being taken for a ride by a (23?)young woman. She got him to cosign a number of credit cards, ran them up, and refuses to pay for them. He is not emotionally stable, believes she's his girlfriend. Collectors have been calling, and we paid off the two we thought he had, Now it seems there are many others. He received $1250 from medical retirement/s.s. at the beginning of the month, four days later he has no money. The family pays all of his utilities (because he was several months behind in payments), prescriptions, and some food. We think his money is going to this girl. He refuses to tell us what he does with the money but constantly is asking for some. His son is very concerned about his situation, but does not know how to handle this. We are in Michigan.

This would appear to be a criminal matter. It seems this "girl" has committed some kind of fraud. I'd contact local law enforcement to find out if theres any charges you or the state can pursue. Only thing is, you would probably have to provide proof your brother is incompetent and disorientated; not capable of making proper decisions or realize whats going on. If you can prove he has some kind of disorder I'm almost positive the girl can be arrested on some state or perhaps even federal statute violation.

Good luck.
