What is the name of your state? New York State!

My son was snowmobil ridding on a lake in New York State, with a group of other snowmobilers. The ridder in front of the group stop his snowmobil and got off and walked away from his snowmobil. It was 10:00 pm and there was no lights o the lake.
My son and the group he was with came upon the snowmobile and my son hit the snowmobil and both his and the machine he hit were damaged beyond repair. The only person injured was my son who hit the stranded machine. He will be ok!
My son did not have any insurance. The person who's machine he hit had full coverage and his insurance company has paid him for his loss $ 9,000.00.
Can this person or his insurance company hold me responsable for his loss? Who is responsable? Can my son claim his loss under the other persons insurance coverage? What is the name of your state?

Sounds like it is your sons fault. Why is he driving at night if he can't see what is in front of him. That is very dangerous and he is lucky he did not get more seriously injured. I don't see how it would be the other persons fault at all. The insurance company might be able to come after your son to reimburse them.
