I am in the state of Kentucky, and I am posting this for another party. I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

Last Saturday, someone from their apartment complex asked them to help him move suddenly, saying he was having family issues and needed to be closer to them. He offered to pay them with a television (I believe it's around 60', though I cannot be sure.) and they helped him move.

We later learned from the complex's maintenance man that the television wasn't his to give away, as it was a rental that hadn't been paid off yet.

They would like to keep the television, as it is a huge upgrade to what they currently own. However, I am concerned about the repercussions, as they fully intend on simply telling authorities the first half of the story if they come looking for it.

What sort of advice would I give them? I've tried telling them that there's a good chance they could get in trouble for keeping it, but I feel they don't fully understand the problem and I am failing to find any information regarding such a unique circumstance online.

Thank you for your time.

What is unique about receiving stolen property. people do it all the time...

Can't find any information?..well, at the risk of pointing the obvious to the oblivious you should advise them to give the**# @^%!! thing back!

Now that they know it is not their property it is criminal to keep it. If they want to negotiate something with the company to pay off the rest of the contract, they are free to do so, but generally those deals are TERRIBLE financially.
