My sister and I are co-executors of parents' estate and also hold DPOA and medical POA for both. Mom is currently in locked Alzheimers facility. Dad still living in family home but wants to move. Both wills direct us to distribute all assets between 5 children. We are currently in the process of getting the home ready to sell and will begin distribution of assets (furnishings, personal items etc. that my dad does not want to keep) in the near future. Any monetary assets will be retained until death of both parents to provide for their card. My dad and siblings are in agreement to begin this process. What form of documentation of these items is required? Are there any "gotcha's" we should look out for? Do we need a lawyer at this stage?

Since both parent's are still living is this considered part of executor's duties? Our family has decided that since the volume of work associated with this is high that my sister and I should be compensated in some way. How is this done? Particularly when we are distributing assets prior to death of both parents.

Thanks,
Brenda

Who is paying for mom's care?

Don't know why I didn't think about our elder care attny. She drew up the POA etc and we really like her.

Mom has long term care insurance that is paying most of her care in the facility. Between her SS & dad's navy retirement & SS the balance can comfortably be paid.

We took certain furnishings to the facility for her and dad has identified things he wants to take when he moves from the house to an apartment. The rest is to be given to the kids, sold or given to charity.

We've encountered problems with other issues associated with mom's at home care and I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for this next phase.
