What is the name of your state (only U.S. law) WISCONSIN.

HELLO EVERYBODY. THIS PAST SUMMER I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET WITH AN ACADEMIC ADVISOR AT MY SCHOOL. BEFORE SEEING ONE I SPECIFICALLY TOLD THE ENROLLMENT RECEPTIONIST THAT I NEEDED TO SEE AN ACADEMIC ADVISOR SPECIALIZING IN THE 'DENTAL HYGIENE' PROGRAM AND SHE SAID I WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE ONE RIGHT AWAY.

I NEEDED TO ASK THE ADVISOR IF ALGEBRA 1 AND GEOMETRY (I TOOK THESES IN HIGH SCHOOL) ARE CONSIDERED 'ADVANCE MATH' CLASSES SINCE AN 'ADVANCE MATH' CLASS IS A PREREQUISITE FOR ENTRY TO THE PROGRAM. HE LOOKED AT THE DENTAL HYGIENIST BROCHURE I HAD BROUGHT IN AND SAID, "NO, YOU WOULD NEED TO TAKE AN ADVANCE MATH CLASS IN ORDER TO GET INTO THE PROGRAM." HE MENTIONED A MATH CLASS CALLED 'INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA' WHICH IS WHAT I WAS CURRENTLY TAKING THIS FALL UNTIL I DECIDED TO DROP IT. HERE'S WHY:

I WAS IN THIS CLASS FOR TWO WEEKS, BUT PRIOR TO DROPPING THIS CLASS, I DECIDED GO ONLINE AND LOOK AT THE SCHOOL'S WEBSITE TO GET A 2ND OPINION ON THIS MATH CLASS THAT THE ADVISOR TOLD ME TO ENROLL IN BECAUSE THE CLASS WAS A REFRESHER OF WHAT I ALREADY LEARNED IN MY HIGH SCHOOL MATH CLASSES, WHICH I DIDN'T FIND NECESSARY. I LOOKED UP THE DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAM ACADEMIC ADVISOR AND EMAILED HER MY QUESTION: I TOOK ALGEBRA 1 AND GEOMETRY IN HIGH SCHOOL, DO I HAVE TO TAKE ANOTHER MATH CLASS LIKE 'INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA' TO GET INTO THE DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAM?" SHE EMAILED ME BACK AND SAID, "NO, GEOMETRY IS CONSIDERED AN 'ADVANCE MATH' CLASS."

WOW, THAT'S WHEN I DROPPED 'INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA' AND FOUND OUT THAT I WOULD NOT GET A REFUND BECAUSE THAT'S THE SCHOOL POLICY. SO, WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS, CAN I GET MY FULL REFUND BACK FROM THE SCHOOL IN SPITE OF THEIR SCHOOL POLICY BECAUSE THE FIRST ACADEMIC ADVISOR AT THEIR SCHOOL TOLD ME TO TAKE A CLASS THAT I NEVER NEEDED TO TAKE IN THE FIRST PLACE??? IT'S HIS FAULT THAT I TOOK THIS CLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE! PLEASE WRITE BACK ASAP. I WANT TO KNOW IF I COULD FILE A SMALL CLAIMS CASE.. THANKS FOR READING.

What was the school's response when you calmly asked your questions (as opposed to yelling, as you did here)?

I called the school and spoke to a receptionist in the enrollment services department who simply stated that I would not get a refund at all since that's the school policy. I did not mention anything about the advisor because I don't want them confronting him and have him deny the whole situation to get out of this mess. I was thinking of setting up an appointment to see the advisor who had given me the wrong information to confront him on what I found out with the second advisor and to also audio record our conversation for evidence.

If you dropped the class after the deadline to withdraw and get a refund, then you will not (and should not) get a refund. You should have gotten that second opinion before school started.

Alg 1 and Geo are not "advanced" (there is a "d" on the end of that, btw) math under any stretch of the imagination. Those are basic math classes that are required to graduate high school in most states. Alg 2? Trig? Calc? THOSE are "advanced" math.

So, let me get this straight. You called to ask for a refund and, AFTER you were told you couldn't have one, you decide that the story sounds better if you say one of their advisers gave you bad information....

First of all, I don't need your guy's grammer/spelling checks. If you got the idea that I meant 'Advanced Math' then xxxx up! And guess what, I filed a complaint and got my money back. :p

Sooo much for all of your advice. I needed positive feedback, not negative comments or spelling lessons! Oh yeah, I wrote on ALL CAPS b/c my caps lock button just happened to be on so whoever you are, Get a life! ;)

Ain't you lucky. You were rude first - typing in all caps is very rude. The caps lock button goes off, and I'm SURE you noticed after a few letters that it was on.
