What is the name of your state? KY

I am a college student, and also have a full time job. Due to my own poor spending practices (i have since learned how to operate on a budget) i accumulated a sizable credit card debt. I lost my job, and my accounts are now all 2-6 months past due. I contacted a debt negotiator, but the paperwork is taking a long time to go through (it was finally complete so they could contact my creditors yesterday)....

I have had limited phone contact them, because i am rarely at home, although i have informed most of them that i have contacted an agency and intend on paying these debt back. I have recently been receiving letters of threatened legal action. I have no way to catch up the payments, and i have sent them all letters explaining the situation, and the intended resolution.

my question is this....how likely am i to be sued even though i'm making an attempt to repay them, and they know of my situation. what is the usual time frame for cc companies? do you think they'll take me to court, even though i'm trying to settle these accounts? i explained very clearly that my only alternative was bankruptcy.

thanks for any advice

*** There is really no way to answer your questions. Some creditors are very aggressive and seem to file lawsuits on a whim. Others seem to be very casual and, in fact, seem to not file at all.

I would also be weary of the agency you are using. Read some of the posts on here and see how much more trouble these people got into after trying that. It's not the great plan that they make it seem to be.

Also just because you have them it does not stop your true creditors from still trying to collect in any means available to them. I know I personally never agree to these peoples plans when I get them.
