What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Mississippi....I don't know what to do, a few months ago my boss offered to leave his wife if I would date him and when I rejected him he started doing awful things to me. He has threatened me and makes me cry on a daily basis. Calls me awful names follows me and threatens to harass anyone I come into contact with. I need my job but can't live like this. I am trying to find another job but its hard when I work all the time. He has very influential friends in this small town and I don't know where to turn.

Have you reported these threats to the police?

I have not reported this to the police for two reasons....I need my job and most of the police will take his side...he was in law enforcment in this town for several years...I have not reported it to an HR because we don't have one...he owns the company...A friend told me that I needed to be gathering proof so I have bought a pocket recorder...I have been recording some of the times when he has screamed and yelled at me and called me all the dirty names...But I wonder if I tried to press charges if they would even allow the recordings to be used.

You didn't answer one of Patty's questions and it's an important one. How big a company is this - i.e., how many employees?

You can and should report it to the EEOC...if the company is too small to fall under their jurisdiction, they'll know.

That is definitely too small, sadly. I don't think any company should be too small to have to comply with sexual harassment laws, but unfortunately that's the way the law is written. There has to be at least 12 employees.
