What is the name of your state? California

my question is where to start looking for info so i am prepared for court.

OK its hot and i haven't had much sleep because this is starting to really piss me off. i think the insurance company is just going after any one they can get

short and not to sweet
10 years ago we sold a motor-home with the registration out of Oregon we live in California to Mr. x . some where in the last 7 years it was towed and sold by the towing company. i was just served a summons today to appear in court. the person the towing company sold it to had an accident. now there insurance company is coming after me for reimbursement. i have not owned it in 10 years how can they even try to sue me? there not even going after the towing company or the lady they sold it to. thank you

Do you have records of the sale? Did you notify the DMV of the sale even though you transfered the vehicle? Did you ever receive any registration papers after you sold the vehicle? Did you receive and tickets for the vehicle? On Monday you will need to call the OR DMV to verify their records, it sounds like even though you sold the vehicle the new owner failed to register the vehicle, thus why you are being sued. The towing company may have only sold an abandoned vehicle and nothing was forwarded, the post office doesn't forward indeffinately and sometimes some things specifically say not to forward.
