Airline travel guidelines for parents

What is the name of your state? GA -

Many of you know the situation with bio-mom and you know how difficult she is. Well, we are trying to type up guidelines for airline travel to add to the order. Yes, it is long, but when dealing with her, it is best to have all of the bases covered and not leave anything up for interpretation.

Please let me know if it's okay and if I left anything major out:

Either party may elect to transport child via major airline by following these guidelines:

(Raleigh-Durham International Airport is noted as RDU, Atlanta-Hartsfield International Airport is ATL)

a. If Defendant chooses to use airline travel for those visits that she is responsible for transportation, she shall be solely responsible for booking and paying for the roundtrip airfare as well as any additional fees associated with the flight.

If Plaintiff chooses to use airline travel during those visits that he is responsible for transportation, he shall be solely responsible for booking and paying for the roundtrip airfare for Defendant’s visit, as well as any additional fees associated with the flight.

Plaintiff shall be responsible for child’s transportation to and from ATL.

Defendant shall be responsible for child’s transportation to and from RDU.

b. Winter Break during odd years, when transportation is split: If both parties elect to use airline travel in lieu of road travel for these visits, Defendant will be fully responsible for booking the roundtrip flights including airfare and fees. Defendant will use her best judgment in finding the most affordable airfare available.

Defendant will provide Plaintiff with a copy of the receipt for the flight and all associated fees within 30 days after conclusion of the visit, in order to be reimbursed for Plaintiff's portion of the airfare and fees. Plaintiff will send reimbursement within 10 days of receipt. If Plaintiff does not receive this receipt within the 30 days, he will not be held financially responsible for any airfare associated with the visit.

If only one party elects to use airline travel for his/her transportation responsibility, he/she will be solely responsible for all booking, airfare costs and associated fees.

c. Notification: The parent booking the flight will notify the other parent of their intent to use airline travel for the visit in writing, and include the ticket and boarding passes with the written notice. Notice must be received at least one week (7 days) in advance of the departure date. If this notification is not received 7 days in advance, it will be assumed that airline travel will not be used for the visit. The individual responsible for the transportation understands that he/she may be required to find alternate transportation for child, or change the flight times, depending on plans/conflicts of the other parent.

d. Scheduling: Flights shall be scheduled for departure from ATL no earlier than 6:00pm on any Friday the child is in school. Arrival time at ATL shall be no later than 5:00pm at the conclusion of the scheduled visit.

School Holidays: If Friday is a school holiday, flights may be scheduled to depart no earlier than 12:00pm for from ATL.

e. The Plaintiff, Defendant or Plaintiff’s spouse must take child to the gate at departure and meet him at the gate at arrival.

Hey, weren't we discussing the NC Child Support Calculator and you were having problems putting in the amounts of income on there? I think I may have figured out the problem.

As for the rest I think it sounds pretty good but I don't know much about visitation.

You forgot - -

f. If either parent chooses flight transportation for child, child must be fitted with a parachute to be used by child when child figures out he/she is finally tired of dealing with parents and / or stepparents. Bricks shall not be loaded into parachute pouch; however, lead boots may be used by child to enhance falling time - - despite what Galileo says about gravity, lead boots DO make you fall faster.

g. In the event of parachute usage, child is authorized to change his/her name to, and allowed to be henceforth known as, "D.B. Cooper."

LOL! That was too funny!

I know it sounds so exhaustive, but we learned our lesson that she can find so many loopholes in the normal written order. Hubby thought it would be best to make it clear who is responsible for what and how involved airline travel can be with a child flying alone. She seems to think everything will be the same even if he flies, such as her visits will still start at 4pm on fridays (he will be at her house by 4pm, meaning he will miss school, and end at 8pm on Sundays, then she can fly him home after 8, meaning he gets home after midnight on a school night.

She came up with the breakdown of the financial responsibility, so we're not trying to be unreasonable or anything there.

Other than that, we added in the part about missing a flight, because stuff happens. It wouldn't be fair if we decide to fly him there and back on our month, and she gets him to the airport too late and he misses a flight that we purchased. We shouldn't have to pay for another flight. And vise versa.

Hi, I was reading your post and up until my hubby got joint physical custody, we were also making up a parenting plan, with lots of detail, for the same reason you are.
What I was wondering was do you trust her to actually send you the reinburstment? What we did was put that we payed for a round trip ticket one month and she payed for the round trip ticket the other month, cause I know that she never would have reimburst us for the cost of half the ticket, I hope this helps... Good luck;) :p :D :p

My response:

Funny? It's not funny. It wasn't meant to be funny!

Would you like to see the FAA Rule concerning child parachutes and wearing "waterwings"?

What exactly was it you were having problems with? And where the heck did you disappear to in chat? LOL!

If it's what I think it is (about the guidelines) It says "If the non custodial parent's income falls within the shaded area of the Schedule, determine the basic child support obligation based on the non custodial parent's monthly adjusted gross income and enter each parent's percentage share of the combined income on line 3.

Do you see what I'm talking about?

Isn't there a copy of the Schedule on ncchildsupport.com?

Also there is another calculator on rosen.com

What the heck is adujusted gross income anyway? Is that net?

imastepmomtoo - Exactly...I don't trust her at all. The part you are talking about would only be the christmas visit, every other year. bio-mom (the ncp) would have to book the tickets and we would reimburse her.

Grace, I'll get back to you on the NC CP guidelines. I haveta check. But I think adjusted gross income would be like gross salary plus any other income like a second job, rent, if they rent out a property, etc.

Oh, I got kicked off chat! It was telling me to log back in!

Ok.

That happened to me too. Just log back in under a different screenname if you have to.

Sorry I misspelled adjusted. LOL. Typo.

Grace...

Unlike SOME people, I really don't give a flying fig how people spell. Although, I try to be gramatically, and spellingly (ha ha) correct, so I don't have to hear it from other people. Believe me, if I were to really let it fly, you probably wouldn't be able to understand what I was trying to say!
