I bought a mini pincher from a breeder where I live on 08/24/2000. I paid $400 and was told that i would receive his akc papers in a few months. I have been calling since dec 2000 and she has been dauging my calls. I was planning on breeding him but without papers his puppies arent as vauluable. What can I do. Please help.

A Warning to dog lovers

Tulip, so sorry to hear about your doggy dilemma. While I am not an attorney, I do know something about the AKC and how it works. Your min-pin's breeder should have had the paperwork available for you at the time of purchase. The "paperwork" is actually an application for registration, which will have the breed, DOB, sire's name, litter number and other information. It is up to the purchaser to actually send in the application for registration.
Unfortunately, some fraudulent breeders do not, in fact, have papers at all and hope that by the time you've lived with Rover for the several months they have stalled you, that you will have fallen in love with your dog and would not return him to get your money back.
Furthermore, many people are under the false assumption that AKC registration means that you are purchasing a dog of good quality with show or breeding potential. It simply means that your dog is a member of the club.

Perhaps a "suggestion" that you might contact the AKC with complaint will get some action.

Good luck!
"Golden" girl ;-)
