What is the name of your state? ny. I'm thinking about filing chapter 7 for my husband and have been doing some research. found out that ny allows you to keep 90% of your income. does this mean that each pay period they will take 10% of his check and where would it go.? we have no assets to speak of and there is already a 10% garnish on his wages with 3 more waiting. will a stay put a stop to the garnishes already in effect? any response would be welcomed. thank you

It is highly unlikely that any wages will be touched. Anything you make AFTER you file is not part of the bankruptcy estate and therefore not a concern for the BK court.

BK WILL stop the garnishments and all funds taken for up to 90 days prior to your filing will be returned.
