My first tip for everyone. I live in a rural area about 60 miles out of the St. Louis Mo metro area. When I realized that my funds were going south I started searhing for a lawyer in my area I found out that there were only 3 that did bankruptcies. Their fees ranged from $900 to $1200 for a simple CH 7.

Anyway I started to search in the St Louis area and found an experienced attorney to represent me for $525 (including court costs). I guess the moral of the story is that it might be worth ones while to drive 60 miles to find a reasonable attorney.

Most simple chapter 7 bankruptcy filings shouldn't be too much more than the amount you ended up paying. Most serious bankruptcy lawyers to keep fees reasonable because of a high volume of filing.

Bankruptcy fees are bound to go up with the new bankruptcy law because there is much more work that must be done.
