What is the name of your state? Washington

I am the POA for my mother who has alzheimer's. She is able to pay her bills with me showing her exactly how to fill out the checks. In the future, she will probably be unable to write out her own checks for bills. Since I am her POA will I be able to write checks from her checking account or will I need to go to court to get a conservator or guardianship in order to write checks for her? Thanks :)

Guardianship is not necessary. However, apply to be mom's Represenative Payee for her Social Security and set up a Represenative Payee account(s) for her at the bank

Thanks Blondie PB. In order to apply to be mom's representative payee for her social security would I need to get the necessary forms from her lawyer or from the social security office? Thanks again :)

It is done at the social security office, and best if you both go in to the office to do it although it can be done by mail, be sure to make an appointment and ask what to bring with you.
