I won a small claims dispute for approximately $5000. I have the judgement, and the defendant hasn't paid. He also owes back rent for an additional $3500 from an unlawful detainer for which I also have a judgment.

I plan on faxing a subpoena to Transunion to furnish his credit report and any other information they may have about where he works, lives, and banks. From my conversations with Transunion they should give me the information I need.

Would I be breaking the law, or violating the FCRA if I did this?

From my research I have a couple of permissible reasons to pull his credit report without his permission.

No.

You are not a "debt collector" within the terms of the FCRA or FDCPA.

As long as you can get the subpoena issued, served and responded to with the information you need, it's perfectly legal and more power to you if it does you some good.
