i entered the u.s. in 1977. i tried a few years ago to get a new revised green card but the lines were too long. i sent a request in the mail but it was returned saying i had to go in person. i have no criminal problems but i am worried about being incarcerated temporarily since a former ins agent told me that this might happen. is that possible? should i get an attorney?

No, you will not be jailed.. but rule of thumb is that if you are threated with jail, you get an attorney.
