What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arkansas
About 2 weeks ago, I took my 2013 Kia Optima to the local dealership because it was having issues. While waiting, I was told that the problem was with the catalytic converter and sludge was in my engine. I was also told that Kia would not cover the issue although my car is still under a 5yr/60K warranty. I was not given a clear reason why. I was then informed that the work would run about $700. A few days later, I was called back and told that after further review, it is my engine that is blown (I figured that might have been the issue all along after doing some research and finding that my vehicle, as well as the Sedona and Sorrento models are having the same problems.) I am positive they knew it was my engine all along, and only did the work on the catalytic converter to gouge me. As it stands, I have submitted my oil change paperwork and I am awaiting word from Kia as to whether or not they will cover a new engine ( I doubt they will because there have been numerous complaints against them for not honoring warranties). I was also told that I am still responsible for the $700 either way. How can they charge me for $700 for work and then call back to say that wasn't the problem in the first place? They are the ones who misdiagnosed my car. Is this legal? Do I have any recourse?
