i'm in texas,,the ex &daughter are in florida. I'm an independant contractor with one employee. the employee is my wife and we work out of our home.but she gets her own salary and i sign a company payroll check to her every other
week. my ex is argueing that the child support has to be 20%
of all our net,,,not just my net income. i dont know squat about legal stuff accept what i get told,,,my question is...am i supposed to pay out of both my wife and my total
net income,,,because yes the money does all come to the same home,,,or am i right in paying strictly from my net income. i'm happy to follow the law,,but sometimes i just think my ex is not being resonable.

this is a tricky one. ladyblu would definitely those this answer up front. but from what i understand of the texas requirements on child support, the amount would come from what you make.

you are an independent contractor - what your business makes would be your net. you need to find out if you can subtract the cost of doing business from that total before you figure the amounts.

i mean, you can charge 75000 for a job and receive the payment. but it could cost 40000 for materials, labor, etc (the cost of doing business), leaving your profit at 35000 (which should be what you pay yourself).

but up front and honest, i don't have a clue if i am right or not. the page i have for texas child support is listed below.

i am sorry that i couldn't help much. but i didn't want you to think that your post has been ignored. i am still looking for specifics for contractors.
