What is the name of your state?Texas
I graduated from ITT Technical Institute 6 months ago and I've been having doubts about the amount of education/cost of education ratio. I graduated with an Associates degree in Computer Networking Systems. The 2 year program cost me $32,000. The few semester leading up to graduation, I started to have serious doubts about if I had enough skills to enter the IT job market. The career services department began to help me search for a job and I also did my part in finding a job. While searching many months for a job, I realized that I never was taught anything in any detail, just a little bit about everything. I realized that I had never been taught anything that would remotely give me a chance in the IT Industry. I finally found a position after 5 months of none stop searching and getting career services to finally give me some decent help. The position was nothing like the image ITT had projected when I was accepted to the school. I thought I was alone until I started talking to my classmates about their situations after school. All of my classmates are very disappointed in the amount of education they received and they too also received jobs that were very less than expected. Many of use do not utilize what little skills that we've learned in school, in our current jobs. And the few of us, who have heavily technical jobs, have learned these skills on our own.
I guess my question would be, how would we protest the money we've paid. We all feel that we shouldn't have to pay $32,000 for an education that we are not seeing any return on investment. ITT projected this image that you will come to this school, get an intense education, and graduate with an excellent job paying a decent amount of money. But the sad truth is that we got an education that was piss poor at best, and most of us received jobs that earned less than $20k per year. What are our options at this point? Could we file some kind of lawsuit against ITT? Also, I’m sure there’s A LOT more of us from this campus.
