What is the name of your state?Texas

I graduated from ITT Technical Institute 6 months ago and I've been having doubts about the amount of education/cost of education ratio. I graduated with an Associates degree in Computer Networking Systems. The 2 year program cost me $32,000. The few semester leading up to graduation, I started to have serious doubts about if I had enough skills to enter the IT job market. The career services department began to help me search for a job and I also did my part in finding a job. While searching many months for a job, I realized that I never was taught anything in any detail, just a little bit about everything. I realized that I had never been taught anything that would remotely give me a chance in the IT Industry. I finally found a position after 5 months of none stop searching and getting career services to finally give me some decent help. The position was nothing like the image ITT had projected when I was accepted to the school. I thought I was alone until I started talking to my classmates about their situations after school. All of my classmates are very disappointed in the amount of education they received and they too also received jobs that were very less than expected. Many of use do not utilize what little skills that we've learned in school, in our current jobs. And the few of us, who have heavily technical jobs, have learned these skills on our own.

I guess my question would be, how would we protest the money we've paid. We all feel that we shouldn't have to pay $32,000 for an education that we are not seeing any return on investment. ITT projected this image that you will come to this school, get an intense education, and graduate with an excellent job paying a decent amount of money. But the sad truth is that we got an education that was piss poor at best, and most of us received jobs that earned less than $20k per year. What are our options at this point? Could we file some kind of lawsuit against ITT? Also, I’m sure there’s A LOT more of us from this campus.

My response:

You mean you believed those commericials, and bought into those terrific looking brochures?

ITT does provide an excellent education and I know many people who have been successful with their education from ITT. But these people did not go to this particular campus. I'm talking about one campus, one group of instructors, and one graduating class. My comment do not apply to the company as a whole. I'm only interested in advice on what steps I can take next.

You will have very little chance of recuperating any of your money from ITT. The problem is that they are not accredited by SACS - the accrediting agency for Texas. So there is really nobody that you can appeal to.

These tech schools are really much all the same. They promise a life-changing education with very few results. You can try to sue them, but you did receive an education, even if it was a bad one.

Did you pay your full tuition with your own money or did you receive some type of government grants to help pay the tuition bill?

Is this school accredited by any state or federal agency? Please post the address of the school or mention their website if they have one.

Talk to your state attorney general and/or your senator or congressman about this school and an investigation will be done. Your actions may possibly protect other students from being taken advantage of. Seems like $32,000 is an exorbitant amount of money to pay for what you received.

Dandy Don, not sure if you noticed, but someone dug this up form June. The OP hasn't been on since 6-28-04 (9:30 P.M.)

But maybe OP will check back.
