What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VA

Father passed away. What steps do you do to find out if he had a bond or annuity. He lived with a girlfriend and she is not sharing any information nor pointing children in the right direction.

check with employers; check bank accounts for payments to a fund of some sort; look for payments to a financial investment company

Annuity or bonds

I wished I had an employer to check with. He was self-employed and the girlfriend has destroyed bank statements. The day before he passed away, he had withdrew $200.00 from his bank account and she can not account for this or his wallet. The bond or annuity would have been purchased in 2003 (?) as our dad got our social security numbers and birthdates.
