I live in Alabama. I have been separated from my "husband" since July 2000. I have filled out all of my divorce papers and paid the money and now I just have to pay the additional filing fee which I mailed today. My boyfriend and I went to Gatlinburg last week and did something really stupid. We went to one of the wedding chapels up there and got married. At the time I really didn't think it was that big of a deal. But now I know that it WAS. I know it was bigamy and I DON'T want to get in trouble. Can we annull this? And if so, can I still get in trouble after the annulment? Where would I go to get it annulled and how? And how much trouble can I get in?

My response :

Your in big trouble now.

Not only did you commit a Class "C" felony, but according to your own State law (See below), you're either an "idiot" or an "insane" person that is no longer entitled to vote.

Section 13A-13-1
Bigamy.

"(a) A person commits bigamy when he intentionally contracts or purports to contract a marriage with another person when he has a living spouse. A person who contracts a marriage outside this state, which would be bigamous if contracted in this state, commits bigamy by cohabiting in the state with the other party to such a marriage.
(b) A person does not commit an offense under this section if:
(1) He reasonably believes that his previous marriage is void or was dissolved by death, divorce or annulment; or
(2) He and the prior spouse have been living apart for five consecutive years next prior to the subsequent marriage, during which time the prior spouse was not known by him to be alive.
(3) The burden of injecting the issues under this subsection is on the defendant, but this does not shift the burden of proof.
(c) Bigamy is a Class C felony."

Alabama Code SECTION 182
"Certain persons disqualified from registering and voting.

The following persons shall be disqualified both from registering, and from voting, namely:

All idiots and insane persons; those who shall by reason of conviction of crime be disqualified from voting at the time of the ratification of this Constitution; those who shall be convicted of treason, murder, arson, embezzlement, malfeasance in office, larceny, receiving stolen property, obtaining property or money under false pretenses, perjury, subornation of perjury, robbery, assault with intent to rob, burglary, forgery, bribery, assault and battery on the wife, bigamy, living in adultery, sodomy, incest, rape, miscegenation, crime against nature, or any crime punishable by imprisonment in the penitentiary, or of any infamous crime or crime involving moral turpitude; also, any person who shall be convicted as a vagrant or tramp, or of selling or offering to sell his vote or the vote of another, or of buying or offering to buy the vote of another, or of making or offering to make a false return in any election by the people or in any primary election to procure the nomination or election of any person to any office, or of suborning any witness or registrar to secure the registration of any person as an elector."

Get an attorney (preferably Criminal Attorney) as soon as possible. Then, you'll need to see a Family Law (Marriage) attorney.

Way to go ! !
