What is the name of your state? NC

i supposedly got married last oct but a week later my 'husband' informed me that he just found out he was still married to his first wife. not sure how he couldn't know his first marriage was still valid but he still hasn't divorced her so i've come to the conclusion that there's more to the story than i know about. i know divorcing her wouldn't make our marriage legal but i'm tired of waiting for him to resolve things and need advice on which route to take so i can put this behind me. i filed for divorce from my first husband but don't know if i can file for divorce from this one since it was never a legal marriage to begin with and if we'd have to be separated a year before filing for divorce or how to go about getting an annulment. i'd like to know the quickest, cheapest and easiest way to get this 'marriage' dissolved.

You would probably want to try for an annulment...obviously the fact that he is legally married to someone else would be grounds. Unfortunately it would probably be in your best interest to use an attorney, therefore its probably not going to be cheap. You can also file for divorce (easier and potentially cheaper) but since NC has the one year waiting period that may not be the best choice for you.

However, your "husband" will hopefully cooperate since he is currently a bigamist and could get in trouble for that. If he cooperates that will keep the cost down.
