Hi, I am a married woman that is has been married to my husband for a year and six months. I have come to the decision that I want to end this marriage and as soon as possible. I don't however posses the funds that are needed for a lawyer, I was told by friends that I could serve him myself and only have to pay for the filing charges. But then my husband tells me that we have been married under two years so we have to get an annulment. Neither one of us has been married before, so this is a bad case of the blind leading the blind. I am not sure if my husband is right, or can I go ahead and serve him the papers and be through with all of this. If I do have to get an annulment, How? or do I have to serve him with Divorce papers? Annulment or Divorce?

My response:

How would we know ?

You never mentioned your State name, as the red writing said when you were writing your post, and also as it says in red writing at the very top of this page.

Please click on "Reply to Post" to tell us your State name, and we'll try to research your question.

Hello,

This is "Soon2bsingle" again, and I apologize for not mentioning my state that I live in or anything pertaining to my question. My husband and I got married at City Hall in New York a year and six months ago, but due to his job me moved to Kansas and that is where we have been living since January of 2000. I am not sure which state laws apply to our situation about a Divorce or an annulment. We got married in New York but we now live in Kansas, and Kansas is where we will be getting a divorce or annulment.

Apologizing again,
"Soon2bsingle"
