my son is an inmate in an iowa state prison. he married while he was in the bremer co. jail waiting transfer. the "happy couple" have not consimated the marriage or any other thing and she has be sleeping with one of his best friends. he would like to know if he can annul this farce and what he has to do to go about it? will he need an attorney? any answers you can give us will be appreciated.
thank you

Not sure about your specific state laws, howevere in the states that I am familiar with, yes not consumating the marriage is grounds for annulment. He will need a lawyer and as long as she does not fight it, he is looking at about $300ish and a couple months at most. One thing you do lose in annulment is that if she owes him any money or anything like that - you can not ask for it back unless you file divorce. good luck!
