What is the name of your state? Ga

my dogs were in our yard, kept in by an electric fence. our neighbor came over with her dog. she started playing fetch with my dogs with a ball. my dogs then started playing fetch and keep away her 3lb dog. her dog is probably going to die. my dogs have never attacked anyone or anything.they were never growling or fighting just playing too rough. what are my legal concerns here? thanks in advance.

Confused.

Your dogs played fetch and keep away with the neighbor's dog. Your neighbor's dog was injured. Is this correct?

Or,

Your neighbor's dog was the object that your dogs fetched and played keep away with your neighbor?

I think it was # 2....kind of a callous way to phrase what happened...:(

I apologize if my remark seemed callous. Play between dogs can result in injury, even with dogs from the same 'family.' I would say the OP is not responsible. A 3# toy dog should not be allowed to play with the big boys.

I have four dogs and I supervise play time carefully. At other times, the dogs are seperated in their respective kennels. Injuries still occur (even to me if I get run over my the madly running pack  ). When doggy friends come over, only size appropriate dogs are permitted to play with each other.

Yep, very confusing. I think that people don't even pretend to re-read their posts for clarity sometimes.

Am I picturing this correctly? OP's dogs are in their own yard and confined by an electric fence. Some lady comes by with a 3 lb. dog and LETS it go into the yard and play rough with the bigger dogs?

I would say that nobody would be that stupid, but I had a recent experience at Petco that made me realize that some people have no sense at all.

My daughter and I took our dogs there for a "fashion show" (silly I know, but my daughter is 9 and thought it would be fun)... I was holding the leash for one of my Italian Greyhounds, a 15 lb. dog that is considered a toy breed and a lap dog. But he is still a hound, with lots of teeth, apparently enough to kill any bird, opossum, or bunny that makes it into our backyard.

I happened to look down and noticed that some lady with a 1.5 lb. Chihuahua on a leash was letting her dog stand in front of mine. My dog knew he was not supposed to hurt the little one, but he looked like he wanted to. He didn't know the dog and you know how dogs can be. I decided to educate the lady, if possible. I told her that although my dog was small, he was still a hound, and perfectly capable of fitting her dog in his mouth. (Not to mention that Petco was very crowded. She should have been holding her dog anyway.)

Some people have no sense.

the 3lb'er explains itself but OP what kind of high prey dogs did this deed?

I imagine if someone showed up in my yard with a small breed dog my 2 Begian Malinois might tear it half trying to get the prey prize, is that what happened? Although mine know what OUT means so I know they would stop on 'out'.

Define 'electric fence'

Because how the hotel did the kid and 3lbs dog get in an electric fenced enclosure.

I have a suspicion the poster means an invisible fence.

You're probably right, Xylene... In fact, I was thinking of invisible fence when I read "electric" fence. Thanks for catching that.

wow alot of posts. sorry at work and couldn't reply. yes it is an invisible fence. my description wasn't callous at all. i actually care for the little dog a great bit. it was an exact description of the event. my dogs were literally playing with the little dog like they do their toys. anyways, does anyone have an idea of the statutes concerning this type of incident?
or any idea of where i may look to get an idea?

I don't see where you're liable, BUT if you have homeowner's or renters insurance, and your neighbor sues you, your liability coverage will protect you, and pay the *small* claim.
