I did a quick google search, and while I cannot verify the validity of this, all of the sites I looked at said the same thing. This particular site just stated the laws in an easy to understand way. I found the following information here: Georgia Age of Consent Laws - Labor Law Talk Blog

"The age of consent under Georgia law is 16. This is true for sexual acts between men and women, as well as sex between two men or two women.

Under the Georgia age of consent laws, a different standard applies when the relations involve an adult who is in a position of power over a young person, such as a teacher, coach, employer or a member of the clergy. In general, it is wiser to assume that in situations involving an imbalance of power, the legal age of consent is 18 or even 21 years.

You must be 18 years old to marry in Georgia. Individuals who are 16 or 17 years old may apply for a marriage license if accompanied by both parents, who have given written consent. If the bride is pregnant, no parental consent is required to marry in Georgia. However, you must submit a statement from a licensed physician certifying that the bride is pregnant.

Georgia has a single age of consent. Unlike many states, Georgia does not require a minimum age difference between partners for prosecution. This means that a 17-year-old man, who has sex with a 15-year-old girl in Georgia, is committing the same crime as a 58-year-old man who has sex with a 15-year-old girl.

It is statutory rape to have sexual intercourse with someone under the age 16, under the Georgia age of consent laws. The punishment for statutory rape is 1 to 20 years in prison. Georgia does take the age differential into account in sentencing. If the defendant is over 21 years old, the sentence is 10 to 20 years in state prison. If the victim has consensual sex and is 14 or 15 years old, and the offender is no more than three years older, the sentence is up to 1 year in state prison"

Just to make it clear, the law does not address dating. You can date anyone your parents (and hers) give you permission to. The law is not going to care if you hang out at the mall, go to school events, go to a baseball game, etc., etc.

What the law cares about is sexual contact. The law doesn't care how you spend your time; it cares about who you touch and how you touch them.

Keep your pants zipped and your hands in your pockets and the law won't care beyond that.

The above assumes that both you and she have parental permission. If either set of parents says no, then it's no, and the law WILL care in that case.

All that means is that you can't be charged with stat rape. What her parents say, goes, as long as she is even one minute under 18. There are still plenty of charges you could face even after she is 16 if her parents take exception.

So don't for one minute think that as long as she is over 16, there's nothing her parents, or the law, can do to you.
