Is there anyway around having to pay the $1000 fine for over staying a visa? Do they have a payment plan for people that are just regular working stiffs?

$1000 answer

you don't give many details, but i do know of someone who was able to bypass the fine simply by returning home and reentering on a passport as a visitor. This reset the clock so to speak and in a month or two they went back down to the office and started the paperwork. (this person had recently married a citizen and was applying for residency...due to the confusion about the process, had somohow passed the six month(??) mark and thus was informed of the $1000)

Now, i don't know the particulars of the immigrant in your situation...planning to be married?(or has just been married?), student? what country they are from...etc...

Also, i am not an expert in immigration by any means...just saw the post and recalled a situation that may or may not help...hope it does.

Just to fill in some of the details ... i have lived in the u.s. since 1989 I entered on a visitors visa which they extended until 1991 when i graduated from a chicago high school. Instead of going back to england i stayed. I recently married the u.s. citizen that i have lived with for the last 8 years and have a 6 year old child with. i'm hoping there is a way around paying the $1000 fine or at least a payment plan i can get on. Going back to england and reapplying is not an option.
