Our Interview Experience in Atlanta

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone,

We just got finished with our interview and we were told that we would receive thier decision in the mail in within a month. So What Does This Mean???

So here's how it went:

We got there 30 min early and were called back 5 min after we sat down, we had a nice, but serious white 40 or so year old male named Ron and he led us to his office, swore us in and asked for interview appointment letter, our IDs and my husband's passport. *(he NEVER asked for the EAD, EVER???) He asked me to verify all my info, address, etc, and same for my husband. He asked questions to verify the info on the forms, he asked if we filled them out ourselves and I said I did. He then asked my husband all the "no" questions, and preceeded to ask if we had any more marriage proof that we wanted to add to his file (we sent in affidavits, bank account, tax return, and lease showing we live with my parents) he took a sample check that I voided, and a paper where we opened our checking account, more bank statements, that was it, we sent copies of pictures so he said he didn't need to see our picture album even though we offered it twice. He asked how we met, I let my husband answer these, he said in high school, and gave a long story about having a crush this year, and dating this year, he asked how long we've known each other, I told him about 6 to 7 years. And then..... he asks my husband when did we decide to get married, my husband froze up lol (he told me afterwards he didn't understand exactly what he meant) He started studdering (he was so nervous) and saying who knows what for about 30 or more seconds and I finally said he means our engagment, and I told the officer soory he is nervous and I said we got engaged July 26, last year on my Birthday, he just kept on marking and stamping stuff. I forgot to write this but, after the "no" questions to my husband, the man started explaining to us the conditional greencard and removal of conditions "if" you're approved, he said.... But he took our ids, and some other stuff and made copies of it, hole punched everything and put in the folder.... closed the folder and sat it in the middle of his desktop and said that he would look over this and that we would receive a decision in the mail in about a month.... And we left... That was it

So... my husband is all worried, he is asleep right here beside me right now and poor thing he thinks that him studdering about the "when did you decide to get married" made it bad.

So, what does this sound like, do they explain the removal of conditions always? They didn't take his EAD, but they took his I94 out of his passport, and he explained the removal of conditions, so could we have another interview? And would he have said something if he knew he was gonna give us another interview?

Thanks everyone! And your comments are appreciated!

Jillian, obviously we weren't there and can't say for certain, but you describe a VERY typical interview.
It may be that your husband's security checks are not yet complete -- a very common issue at the AOS interview.

If you haven't head anything in 3 weeks, consider making an InfoPass appointment to go back and check in with them. Tell your husband not to worry --so-- much, the officers expect people to be nervous in the interview and the stuttering & slow answer to that one question is not enough to kill the approval.
Taking the I-94 is a good sign, and the not taking the EAD means nothing either way.

Some officers seem to enjoy leaving you hanging (it SEEMS that way anyway) but really, it's just another day at the office for them. Try to not worry, and let us know when you get the approval.
Also keep an eye on your online portfolio at uscis.gov; when something changes in your case you should see it there--look for 'card production ordered'. :)

well I am not sure if this will help you.... let me remember... when my husband and I had our interview back in 2005, we also spend 5 minutes until they called our names.... we got inside and we had a lady officer.... I remember talking about the hurricanes that had just past.... and same other details about it.... then she asked our address and when my husband was about to talk she told him no, that she wanted me to say it.... so I did.... then she walked away with our paper work... she made copies and she came back. I remember her stamping my passport and explaining us about the removal of conditions.... she took my workers permit... and we left.....
a few weeks later I got my green card....
I do not recall if she mentioned something about waiting for a decision.... but don’t worry, I guarantee that is a standard phrase that they have to say.... every officer is different... if you guys are legit (which I believe) you should not worry about it.
