asking on behalf of my daughter. she and a male friend were co-leasing a single bedroom apartment in arizona. the friend ran out on her several months ago and refuses to contribute his portion of the rent. both names were on the apartment lease. can she take him to small claims court to recover the portion of the rent he hasn't paid?

Yes, she can recover her 'damages' (money she paid on his behalf), but only after she has actually paid it.
