A friend of mine was recently convicted of home invasion, the night before the trial was to begin, his court appointed attorney came to the jail intoxicated, he was asked to take a breathelizer by the sheriff and the Sgt on duty, he refused his car keys were taken and he was escorted out of the building, there was an incident report made and nothing further has came of it. But it all doesnt end there, this attorney had in his possession a list of witnesses for the trial, four weeks in advance and he did not contact any of them for an interview. The MAJOR downfall of this is that one of them was an alibi witness for my friend (it was his step father) he could testify that my friend was with him on the day and the time that this crime took place and because the proper paperwork was not filed this witness could not take the stand. there is so much that took place in this trial that was against my friends rights. One he did not receive his pre-exam transcripts until after the trial had already started. Another is the witness for the prosecution stated on two seperate occassions that my friend was not the man who committed this crime. the description that she gave of the man who did it was that he was 5"7 and 180 pounds. my friend is 6'4 304 pounds. In fact this women even picked the sheriff out of a line up!!! please help me there is so much more to this case than i have written, my friend has no money and is in dire need of counsel who can help him win his appeal. He does have a criminal record and that is what brought him to trial and now he could face spending the rest of his life in prison for a crime he did not committ. he has paid his debt to society and wants to start a new life but the county we live in is small and they dont want "convicts" in there town, so they are doing everything they can to see this man spend the rest of his life behind bars. Please i am asking for your help, tell me how i can help my friend before it is too late!! He is sceduled to be sentenced on March 27th 2000!!!
