What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oklahoma
My father in law owned 20 acres of land and was in the process of being foreclosed on in 2005. My husband and I went in with him and refinanced the land and put it in a survivorship deed in all three of our names. We have split the mortgage payments and taxes equally for the last several years.
Two years ago, my father in law got married. His wife now wants to be added to the deed. However, for over a year she has been wanting a divorce. Now she says she wants added to the deed or she is leaving. My husband and I feel like she is going to leave regardless. Why would we add her to the deed, only to have to give her a portion when she does decide to leave? My father in law just wants to keep the peace and add her. He is in poor health and wants to ease her fears of having a place to live once he is gone. We have always said that she would be welcome to live in the house as long as she wanted to. She doesn't believe us. She, in turn, has lied to us on more than one occasion. She would absolutely fight us on everything we wanted to do with the land in the future. Is the right thing to do to stand our ground?
