aren't nsf checks employer responsibility?

My employer made me pay $340 for a bounced check that I accepted. Isn't that his responsibility? I worked 2 days for free to pay for it.

If you did not follow the employer's cash-checking procedures, and this resulted in the loss, they may discipline you, and even fire you, but they cannot recover this from your pay unless they file a theft report with law enforcement.
