Hello, I've been posting under the Adoption section.

We are awaiting the final order of adoption for my 10 yo son by my husband. It is (fingers crossed) almost a done deal.

I have a case with DCSE for arrearages to the amount of ~21K for the last 8 years.

I am getting ready to have a significant surgery in Sept, and I'm wondering how the arrearages should be addressed in my will (getting ready to take care of that before my surgery)? I know the money is owed to me, and not my son. Will the arrears just go away?

Just curious! Thanks in advance!

Yes, they would just go away.

And your son's father would get custody of the child most likely if he has not been proven unfit.

Not necessarily, they have a nearly finalized adoption going on.
Missed that. Haven't been following all the threads posted by her. Was responding only to what was in this thread based on the information here.

That's ok....didn't expect for anyone to follow along in my life saga! :)

NCP has been absent since our son was 2, consented to adoption (hubby and I have been married for 7 years this past June) and have finally been in the position to take care of this once and for all. We just had the homestudy done on June 29th, and social worker said that once she filed the report, the court normally takes 21 days to finalize all.

We're just waiting to hear back from the court at this point. As I said, in Sept I'm having surgery, and just wanted to know how to address that particular aspect (the child support case), so I appreciate it!
