What is the name of your state? PA

My uncle is new to the country and was arrested in PA. We contacted the police and they said no one can meet with him until next Tuesday (almost a week) or talk with him. Does this sound right? We are afraid since he speaks limited english, that he will not be aware of his rights. Also we have no idea, why he was arrested and the police will not allow to speak with him or let us know. It seems like a unreasonale long time to be held in jail and not be able to talk with anyone. Any suggestions on who to contact? He can not affford a attorney, do we have any right to contact anyone to help him out.. I am not even sure , he knows, that he has the right to contact or call a family member??

Who arrested him?

What for?

Who is holding him?

Is this state, municipal, federal (i.e., which government has him).

File a habeas corpus and/or contact the public defender (although I suspect there are lots of details we don't know about).

Case101 -

The police are not required to allow your uncle to speak to his family. Pool together your money and hire an attorney. The attorney WILL be allowed to speak with him.

How did you discover he had been arrested?

Is there a bail amount set for his release?

Are you saying the local police are holding him and he is not in a county jail facility?

Have you tried having a bail bondsman call the jail to request his bail information?

They work with the jail personnel daily and probably have a contact on the inside who they can speak to and get information on his bail and what he's being charged with.

Does your telephone accept collect calls? If you have collect call block on your phone, he won't be able to get through to speak with you. If so, contact the phone company to have it removed and hope he tries to call again.
