My ex-boyfriend moved out of the apartment we shared in June 2001. He left behind proptery (furniture). Recently he called and said he wanted it back. He made a point about it being my responsibility to get the property back to him since I "used" it. I said I would make arrangements and let him know when he could pick up his stuff. I have carefully moved all of his possessions into my garage and put his lock on it. I have informed him of the location of his property and that he needs to come pick it up. If he does not comply with the message, I am going to send him a ceritified letter stating a specific deadline for him to pick up his property and if he doesn't pick up the stuff by that deadline, I will call GoodWill to pick it up. My question is this...am I going about this the correct way? Can I be sued if I contact GoodWill to retrieve his property? What other options do I have?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
