What is the name of your state?ALABAMA
My brother (16yo) was at a birthday party for a friend (parents were present) and his ex-girlfriend(when they were 12) was there with her new boyfriend(20YO. She told him that my brother still liked her so this enraged her boyfriend and he came up behind my brother and hit him in the face. The punch knocked him to the gound and he hit the back of his head on the cement. He was knocked out for 5mins. The parents did nothing. My brother's friend drove him home then we took him to the hospital. He had a concussion. My father signed a warrant for the 20yo. There is a court date scheduled. What can we expect?? What should we be prepared for? Shouldn't the parents where the party was held be liable for something???

The parents aren't responsible for the battery. They might be able to be sued to cover the medical expenses if it happened on their property (homeowners' insurance).

Another alternative....

beat the crap out of this 20 yr old punk. Teach him a lesson. Call it old school, but that is how they did it in the old days.

Of course, in no way am I actually endorsing such action... for the record.
Would that record include "A Boy Named Sue" ?
by the venerable Johnny Cash?
