when we first moved into the brand new complex, the managers told us that all the covered and uncovered parking spaces are all unassigned, at first-come-first-serve basis. two months into the lease, they post a message stating that covered parking are now assigned and if you do not have a parking permit, you cannot park there. the limited number of parking spaces, both covered and uncovered, have become more of a problem now since the assigning system has been enforced. we are now forced to park all the way at the end of the complex since by the time we come home from work, there's no parking spaces left that's close to home. what's upsetting is that several of the assigned parking spaces are not used up by tenants who are given the parking permit.

to get a permit, the managers told us that it depends on the date that we moved in. well, we found out that our neighbors moved in several weeks after we did and they got a covered parking and we didn't.

what upsets us the most is that we are paying the same amount of rent as everyone else, so why are we treated unfairly?

what do you guys think? if there's not enough covered spaces to assign to each apt, don't you agree that the spaces should be left open and unassigned ??

I agree. Next time have the management write in a special condition in the lease with respect to the parking. "Parking is currently unassigned and on a first come, first served basis. In the event that the parking stalls change to be assigned, tenant will be given the first option of obtaining a permit for an assigned stall."

we're paying the same amt as everyone else, so why are treated less equally??!!!

do you think we have a case against the managers of the complex??

You would have a case only if you can prove discrimination. Are you the only one in the entire complex that is suffering the same fate? All other tenants have parking permits and are allowed to park in covered and reserved stalls, but not you? Were you singled out and given less than preferential treatment while all the other tenants are treated better? Are all the other tenants given wine and cheese while you are given bread and water? Are you being treated like a second class tenant? There are many things in life that are not fair and parking privileges rank pretty high up on the list.

yes !! parking privileges are pretty high up there in the list, considering the fact that we have to park about half a block away from our apt, that we pay the same amt as everyone else but not given the same treatment, and that we moved in before others but they got an assigned parking while we didn't !!

and although we weren't single out, we're guessing that 80 out of 120 people in the complex are in the same boat. we wouldn't call it discrimination...more like preferences over others. now that doesn't sound like a strong case, but it's still in the same group as discrimination, you think??
