My Assistant Manager (I am the Facility Manager) came into personal information about me seeking employment with a different company. I have an interview set up and airline tickets to fly to meet with them. Ass. Mgr found out and is threatening to call our CEO to inform him of my actions. Ass. Mgr approached me a few days ago and confirmed of the knowledge and is making me perform other tasks usually assigned to others, to keep quiet. Today was approached with an ultimatum of you call him by 6pm or I will. Can this be looked at as blackmail, or slander, due to the fact the she is taking personal information to get me fired, to gain a better position in current company? I do not wish to burn any bridges, and I had it in my mind to give notice and give current employer time to find a replacement.

What and where do I go from here. If i do not get other job, I may be out of both...

I don't see anything illegal here. Not nice. But probably not illegal.

Level with your CEO about your interest in another position. It will give him/her time to think about what kind of counteroffer s/he wants to make.
