If an ATM gives you 20 when you ask for 10 can you get it trouble or is it a bank problem. And what if you take "advantage" of it.

Thanks

You can and will be charged with theft. They know who and when the money was withdrawn. You can take your chances and not report it if you don't mind looking over your shoulder all the time wondering if a police officer is just about to nab you.

My response:

Or, there's another answer to this. Even if you punch in the numbers for something less than $20.00, an ATM can only dole out money in increments of $20.00.

Check your receipt from the transaction. I'll bet you that your account was debited for the $20.00.

Just a thought.

Ive used a Few that dispense $5 Increments . perhaps for those who have less then $20 in the account. lol and any errors with atm transactions would eventually be deducted from your account!

I've seen posts on some OLD threads, but this has GOT to take the cake!

Please check the dates!

Yeah, the IAAL posting was a dead giveway.

I had flashbacks and tremors until I saw the date. :)

Though, it IS an interesting quandary ... I discovered that I got given a $50 once and did not realize it until a couple of days through my "wad" of $200. I went back to the bank and advised them of the mistake, and they were unable to find any shortage in their ATM drawer or anywhere else, so they said they would contact me if there was a problem, otherwise, 'Merry Christmas."

They suspected that it was probably tallied as a $20 bill and not as a $50, but could not in all honesty take it back since they had no record of it.

So, I did my civic duty and did the right thing. Thinking back, I probably should have spent $30 in cookies or chocolates for the staff ... but, would I really want buy fattening snacks for women who handle my money? Some people take offense at such things!:D
