What is the name of your state? wa

I just talked to an attorney and i am thinking about hiring him. His retainer is 2,500 dollars. My question is what is a retainer mean and is that a good deal. I dont want to get ripped off. The situation really is that my ex is accusing my new wife's son of molesting my son. I cant even live with my wife right now, cause i wanna see my kids and she doesnt even know we are together or even married, so we are waiting till after the holidays to start all this. I got a tape of her harassing me and i have to get it transcribed as well.
A child interviewer through the prosecuting attorneys office tried to contact her but she never responded, so i got ahold of the ladies name and number and called her myself. I then took my son in myself and the interviewer said she didnt believe anything had happened, but it was hard to tell cause my son is mildly autisic and repeats everything he hears. But regardless, im the one who took him to prove it didnt happen so it will look better on me in court. Anyways ya---what is a retainer and am i getting a good deal with this attorney?

What are you hiring the attorney for exactly? Is it for a custody/visitation case? Criminal case against your stepson? Regardless of what it is for, a retainer is like a "down payment". In some simple cases, the retainer will more then cover the entire cost. However, with child molestation accusations, you should be prepared for a much higher final bill. How old is your new stepson? Does he have any history of deviant behavior? Has he ever been in a situation where the molestation COULD have actually happened? If you think for a second that it might be true, you need to do whatever is necessary to protect YOUR child.

no the molestation never happened. The two were never alone together. He has no history of any deviant behavior whatsoever, hes a good kid. It all comes down to a jealous ex wife who wants to control my life. Its a visitation case but might become more..
