My 3 siblings and I were the registered owners of a piece of land in Michigan. They wanted to sell; I wanted to buy. I paid them each their asking price and was then given a new quit claim deed with just my name on it. When I tried to register the deed in Michigan, the deed, along with my check for fees, was returned to me by the Register of Deeds along with a letter of explanation outlining what changes had to be made to make the deed "registerable" in Michigan. That's when my problems started...
When I returned the deed and attached letter to the attorney my siblings had hired, he made copies of it all, returned the "originals" to me, and told me he would take care of it. That was at least 2 months ago! I have either called or visited the office nearly every week since that day and have not yet received a thing. I have not been able to talk to the attorney and he has never returned a call or acknowledged my visits in any way. What do I do? I've paid for a piece of property and am left with a deed that I cannot register. I live in Minnesota. Thank you for any suggestions.
