What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Vt. New situation with my soon to be 18 year old. He is autistic. I got a call from his case worker informing me that his father (who has custody) is filing for legal guardianship. My son turns 18 in June and is still in high school. My ex has filled out paperwork for full guardianship. He excluded me from the paperwork when filing with the courts. My son's case worker will keep me informed when the court date has been set. What rights do I have now? I have visitation and pay child support. How will my ex filing for guardianship affect my rights and child support. I tried talking to him but he refuses to talk to me right now. I told him until he is done with school I am paying my child support so that I still have my visitation. He told me that once he has full guardianship of our son then my visitation ends but my child support I still pay. He also said that because he is putting our son into a program through the high school to keep him in another 3 years that I will have to pay until then too.
I asked him why was he filing for guardianship? He claimed that when our son turns 18 he gets Social Security and Social Security Disability. So I am confused with this guardianship stuff, and my rights to seeing my son, and how child support works here. tyty
