We are trying to find a lawyer (NY) to help us in an auto accident case. We were referred to a law firm, which we contacted a few days ago, and spoke twice with a "new claims" person who took down all the necessary information. We were advised that an attorney would get back to us that day. No one called us. We called again today and were told by the same person that the attorneys wanted to get the results of MRI's first before they will even talk to us about the case. The mri's are scheduled over the next few weeks. This accident only happened a week ago and it has been quite difficult to get "immediate" appointments for tests and with doctors (believe me, we've tried!). Both my husband and I suffered severe whiplash, I was taken to the hospital by ambulance, the car was totalled and the other insurance company has accepted total liability for the accident. Is this normal practice by attorneys to decide first if the case is "worth it" to them? Aren't they supposed to have the best interest of the CLIENT in mind? We spoke to a few other attorneys as well and it sounds like if you're not in a million pieces after an accident, they're not interested in taking your case! We need legal advice NOW, not weeks from now after we've had tests done and finally get results. What response should we expect from a GOOD attorney regarding the decision to take our case? Any research we can do on attorneys to find a good one in our area? We are both in a great deal of pain and need help, not red tape! What an aggravating experience this has been, between insurance companies, doctors, appointments, attorneys, etc. And I know this is just the beginning! Any good advice on how to GET good advice??????
