I LIVE IN NY I HAD A PASSENGER IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN NJ ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO. I HAD A LAWYER FROM STATEN ISLAND WHO WORKS IN NJ AS WELL I THOUGHT WAS REPRESENTING ME, THERE IS A TWO YEAR STATUE OF LIMITATION IN NJ AND THERE IS ONLY LESS THEN A MONTH TO FILE AND NOW I JUST GOT A LETTER THAT THE LAWYER IS NO LONGER INTERESTED IN REPRESENTING ME. I HAVE BEEN SEEING DOCTORS ALL ALONG AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO IN SUCH LITTLE TIME. CAN I DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE SHORT NOTICE THE LAWYER LEFT ME WITH OR IS THERE ANYWAY THAT I CAN GET AN EXTENTION WHILE I SEARCH FOR ANOTHER LAWYER ON SUCH LITTLE NOTICE. I DON'T WANT TO THROW MY CASE AWAY ESPECIALLY SINCE I AM INJURED, AND IT'S NOT FAIR TO ME. ANY ADVISE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRIECATED.

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Okay, basically, you should never dilly dally. That is YOUR fault as well, not just your attorney's fault.

You can automatically get all of your paperwork accumulated with your former attorney and give it to a new one. It doesn't take a whole long time to file. Be glad you have a month. But do not procrastinate.

Try attorneypages.com and look for a personal injury attorney OR try your state bar association by calling 411. Once you reach the state bar, ask for lawyer referral. Do this ASAP.
