My brand new car got involved in an unoccupied hit and run. I receive the bill this month and my premium has already increased by $450 for the remaining 4 payments for the year. Is this normal?

Usually you do not get a premium increase for not-at-fault accidents, and when they do increase premiums they wait until the next billing cycle. But you live in New Jersey so anything is possible. You will have to call your insurance company and ask them.

Your premium has increased for some reason other than that accident. You are probably within the freelook period, so it probably has to do with underwriting, not the accident.

Call your company and ask it the reason for the increase. Also, call other companies for quotes.
